Steven is a partner at Parry Field Lawyers based in our commercial team and actively supporting clients across the country.  Having worked for more than a decade on corporate transactions worth billions of dollars while based in London, Tokyo and Sydney, Steven returned home in 2016.

That return led to writing many legal books that have been downloaded thousands of times and  has resulted in Steven becoming a sought after speaker and advisor with a unique blend of expertise and focus on:

  • Companies
    • Steven helps keep founders safe with bespoke advice on the right legal structures, multi million dollar capital raisings and contracts of all types. Often clients have a purpose/impact driven focus and want to push the bounds of how we think about companies and innovate.
    • Steven provides input to the regulator which sets the financial standards of NZ as a member of the XRB advisory panel. He is a frequent contributor to print media (Stuff, Spinoff, Idealog) and he is host of the Seeds podcast with 360+ conversations, founder of Seeds Impact Conference and author of the Start-ups legal toolkit and Capital raising for founders.
  • Charities
    • Steven has assisted hundreds of charities, churches and for purpose groups ranging from very large national tier 1 charities to those just beginning, including setting up around 50 in the last year (around one a week). Creator of the Charities Healthcheck which has contributions from 100 other leading industry experts, Steven is also a frequent speaker in this area, providing input to the regulator as part of the Charities Services Sector Group.  He wrote a Charities handbook and is currently writing parts of the revised NZ Charities text for Lexis Nexis.
  • Governance
    • Steven is nationally recognised as a leading expert on governance and is a busy facilitator for the Institute of Directors teaching people about legal risks and how to stay safe. He hosts the IOD podcast “Board Matters” which is in its second season now.

Steven welcomes the chance to talk with you about how our team could help yours.

Steven is helping many incorporated societies to prepare for reregistration under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 and to consider their legal structure – you can find out more on our Information Hub
