Board Skills Matrix
We’ve been asked many times about Boards and the skills that those in governance need. One way to consider this is from the perspective of a matrix which sets out the variety of skills on a board. After completing this table you can get a good sense about what skills you have, overlap of those skills and where there may be gaps.
Potentially there are many data points which could be asked about but you also don’t want this to be too long to complete either.
While this has not been included in this there are other categories such as gender and race that could be added. It is also worth asking a question about diversity and if you have good representation when compared to the people you help or are customers – are they at the boardroom table?
Each person should self evaluate with a tick or for other answers using a scale of 0-3 with:
0 = no experience
1 = some
2 = experienced
3 = expert
