Commercial & Property Lawyer

Our People

Parry Field Lawyers is a growing full-service law firm with offices in Hokitika, Christchurch CBD, Riccarton, Rolleston, and Auckland.  With around 100 staff, we are focused on supporting our people to succeed in meaningful work while fostering a connected and people-focused team culture.

About the Role

Are you a skilled Lawyer looking to trade the city hustle for a booming regional practice, just metres from the beach?

We are seeking a Property & Commercial Lawyer to join our team in Hokitika – now based in beautiful new office premises.

Under the guidance of Partner, Joseph Morris, you will manage a diverse caseload, focus on core West Coast industries, as well as work closely with local families, businesses, and agricultural clients who value trusted, face-to-face legal counsel.

We offer flexibility, genuine career progression, and the work-life balance that comes with being part of a close-knit community and firm.

  • Agribusiness: Manage rural property transfers, farming leases, structuring asset protection and succession planning.
  • Subdivision Work: Oversee property development, including multi stage.
  • Small Commercial: Assist with small business sale and purchase, leasing, business structuring, and shareholder agreements.
  • Mining & Resources: Advise on access arrangements.

What’s on Offer?

  • True Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a shorter commute, evening beach walks, local arts trails, and the breathtaking turquoise waters of the Hokitika Gorge.
  • Affordable Living: Help build and enjoy Hokitika’s highly accessible housing market.
  • Family-Friendly: Raise a family in a supportive town with a choice of four local primary schools.
  • World-Class Wilderness at Your Doorstep: Spend your weekends tramping, hiking, or hunting across the vast, beautiful West Coast backcountry huts and reserves.

About You

We are seeking a lawyer with approximately two plus years’ post-qualification experience in property and commercial law.

You will need:

  • An excellent ability to build professional relationships
  • Solid academic and practical ability, with the maturity and wisdom to thrive in a busy practice
  • A clear understanding of billable hours and a willingness to work productively to meet targets
  • A positive outlook, strong work ethic, and the ability to work collaboratively in a supportive team environment

Previous experience in a law firm setting is preferred, but we are focused on finding the right person with a positive attitude and potential.

What We Offer

  • A collaborative, team-first culture where your development is genuinely invested in
  • Flexible working arrangements, including support for returning parents and an openness to alternative patterns for the right candidate
  • The opportunity to build a rewarding career alongside expert practitioners
  • A friendly, approachable workplace with excellent coffee and morning teas (a non-negotiable perk!)

We pride ourselves on being pragmatic, supportive, and fully committed to both outstanding client outcomes and the wellbeing of our team.

If you are a capable, empathetic, and driven lawyer ready for your next career step in a firm that values people and purpose, we would love to hear from you.

Remuneration is competitive and negotiable for an exceptional candidate.

How to Apply

If you like the sound of this opportunity and you think you could be a good fit, please apply through SEEK with a cover letter and a CV outlining your relevant experience by no later than 5.00pm, Thursday 23 July 2026.
