Phone several moving companies for quotes. Get quotes for your house and contents insurance - make sure it covers the move itself. |

Contact power, gas companies to arrange final meter readings and disconnections for the last possible moment. |

Arrange reconnection of power and gas at your new home. |
 |
|
Arrange relocation of television services if applicable (e.g. SkyTV). |
 |
|
Arrange transfer of your telephone number and account - or confirm new telephone number at your new address. |
|
|
Start collecting boxes and packing things you don't use much (number boxes as you pack them - and label by room). |

|

Two weeks before moving day |
|
|
Arrange with New Zealand Post for your mail to be redirected to your new address. |
 |
|
Pick up change of address cards - they're free. |
 |
|
Make an appointment with Parry Field to sign your mortgage documents (if not done already). |

|
Get a forwarding address for the previous owners of your new home. |
 |
|
Ask the previous owners to brief you on things to do with the house - like how the alarm, plumbing, and heating work, the names of paint colours used, tradespeople who have worked on the house, and about the garden. |

One week before moving day |
|
|
If you're renting, contact your landlord to arrange to return their keys. |
 |
|
Send your change of address cards, change papers or any other deliveries to your new address and confirm start day for deliveries. |
 |
|
Give your new address to your landlord or the people moving into your old place. |
 |
|
Discuss times for moving in and out with the last owners and confirm with removal company. |
 |
|
If you have children, let teachers know your children may be unsettled. |
 |
|
Do a last check of the property you're buying (see if the place is still in good order, that everything you think you've bought is still there and any repairs agreed have been done). If there are any problems talk to Parry Field. |
 |
|
Finish packing everything except the essentials. |
 |
|
Put valuables and important documents in a safe place - you might want to move these items yourself. |
 |
|
|

Moving Day |

|
Collect the keys to your new home. |
 |
|
Check everything is gone from your old home and that it has arrived at the new one. |
 |
|
Clean up your old place and return the keys to your landlord, (or to Parry Field if you are selling). |

Start unpacking! |
